Kiltale students marathon efforts.
Last September Rose Cullen, the principal of Kiltale national school and our former treasurer Catherine McLernon a teachers assistant at the school set up an athletics programme at the school. The plan was for all the children to complete a marathon over a series of running sessions during the autumn and early winter.
Every pupil in the school from infants class right up to sixth completed the marathon and on Thursday 3rd February they were all honoured at a presentation following the final run out.
It was a joy to see the enthusiasm of the entire school as they set out to complete the final leg of their run for marathon glory. They were buzzing with anticipation at assembly. For many of them their first sports medal is the one they will most treasure. All the teaching staff came out to encourage and support their pupils and were full of praise for the initiative.
The parents association chairman, Johnny Gorman, Meath Athletics PRO, Ciaran Tobin, and school principal Rose Cullen paid tribute to the packed assembly of happy children on their great efforts. The parents association provided each young runner with a lovely certificate of achievement and medal. The school is now eager to send out its best team to the primary schools cross country in March. Well done and good luck to all.

European Cross Country
Sara Treacy from Moynalvey/Kilcloon AC represented Ireland in the Womens
U/23 race at Albufuera, Portugal last Sunday. She was the first Irish
finisher in 28th place. Great to see a runner whose early career often included laps of the Porchfield at Meath CC cships competing in the big time.
In the junior mens race Shane Quinn (Ferrybank AC) led the Irish challenge
with a very good 12th place finish. He is the grandson of one our club
founders Mrs Sheila Quinn ( formerly of the Maudlins) and son of the long
time Irish steeplechase record holder Brendan Quinn who was among the first
recruits to our club in the early 70s.when it was the Yellow Steeple AC.
Another member of the Irish team with connections in the town is Fionnula Britton, the brave and gutsy 4th placer in the senior womens race. Catherine Moran of Trim Jewellers, Market St is her proud aunt.

Thanks for giving and collecting
Trim AC are very grateful to all those who donated so generously to the
collection and thanks also to the business owners who facilitated our
collectors at Supervalu and Spar. All funds raised are used for the
development of training facilities and equipment for our large juvenile
membership. The club now has six under age members on the Leinster
development squad and one on the national jumps squad. We have made great
progress in recent years with limited resources.
Thank You to the volunteer collectors who helped out with our annual flag
day last Saturday. It is good to have a core of reliable people who give
their time to improve things . Your actions and interest speak volumes. Our
club is totally reliant on these type of funding arrangements as we have
been unable to access Lotto funding. (We train by kind permission at Boyne
Community school)
Your generous gestures will help bring further improvements. Thanks to all
and Happy Christmas.
