The following Trim athletes have been selected to represent Meath at the Leinster cross country championships which will be staged at the historic Avondale House near Rathdrum Co Wicklow .

Conor Daniel, BU18; Hannah Gilligan,Aoife McDonnell GU14; Andrea Hiney & Caoimhe Rowe GU12.Conal Bird BU12.David O'Neill BU14. Best of Luck to all. The provincial novice and masters championships will be staged on the same day at the same venue. Those teams will be announced in the coming days and published next week

Run in disguise and you could win a prize

Earlier this year the club organised an town centre fun run  in aid of Tabor House. The club  will be staging another run along similar lines on Friday 26 October in aid of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. Race will be on a 3 kilometre route starting at Market Street. Keeping with the Halloween season there will be prizes for the best fancy dress competitiors. We expect a clatter of 11890 duos!!! So think harder for a prize!!

There will be spot prizes, team/club prizes for your workplace, family, school etc...START TIME 7.30pm

Entry fee is a bargain at only €5 per person with medals for the first 200 finishers.The monies raised will contribute to the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind programmes which  include 

1;The Guide Dog Programme for people who are blind or vision impaired 2; Orientation and Mobility Training (Long Cane) 
3;Independent Living Skills Training 4;The Next Step Programme (To help young adults with the transition to life in college / work)5;The Companion Dog Programme

Armagh 10 mile road race

The Armagh 10 mile road race took place on Sunday 14 Oct. Trim AC was represented by five runners who were all pleased with their performances. Joe McNamara and Don Mahon were getting in a bit of marathon preparation. The times were as follows.. Don Mahon1.04.23, Joe Mc1.05.59,Barry Harten 1.08.38, Brian Cully,1.15.13,Ann Tobin,1.19.33.

Katie Nugent memorial duathlon

The second duathlon in memory of Katie Nugent, (a six year old girl that died after suffering from leukaemia in 2010) takes place in the grounds of Ballinlough Castle Co Westmeath on Sunday October 21st next.  Funds raised go towards providing  psychological and emotional support for patients on St Johns ward at Crumlin Childrens Hospital. 

The distance is 2.5km, 22km cycle, 2.5km.  It costs €50 to enter with a minimum of €100 in sponsorship expected per entry or for a two person team, €100 to enter and €200 in sponsorship.  A post race lunch is provided for all competitors.

Directions to county intermediate & uneven ages cross country

Dunboyne AC will host this Sunday's Meath Cross Country Championships (Intermediate, Junior, UnEven Ages) at the Cowpark in Dunboyne. Car parking at the Cowpark is limited but plenty is available at the club. Dunboyne AC clubhouse is on Rooske Road, Dunboyne, Co. Meath. The race route is about a mile from the clubhouse so arrive early to allow time to jog to the start.

Dunboyne AC by car (from Meath):
Drive straight through the main traffic lights in the village, direction Dublin. After about 200 yards you'll come to a second set of traffic lights. Turn right here. About half a mile up this road you'll see a large car parking area on the right, with Dunboyne GAA club, Dunboyne AC and Scouts Hall behind it.

Jog straight back down the Rooske Road and turn right (towards Dublin) at the T junction / traffic lights. After about half a mile, just before Clonee sawmills, you'll see a gate and the entrance on the right hand side of the road.

Parking is also available Dunboyne Train Station for €3 daily - the station is located half way between the village and the Cowpark.

Report from Ballinacree by John Rowe

Well done to all 23 Juvenile athletes who competed in Day 1 Meath Cross Country Championships in Ballinacree, Oldcastle last Sunday. The  club was represented by boys and girls in the U10, U12 , U14 and U18 categories.  It was great to see so many turned out in club colours.  Thanks to all the parents for bringing them along.

Our  athletes who finished  inside the top 12 were Andrea Hiney 8th and Caoimhe Rowe 9th in the Girls U12, Hannah Gilligan 9th in the Girls U14, David O'Neill 11th in the Boys U14 and Conor Daniel 6th in the U18 category.

Congratulations to the U12 girls who finished 3rd best team overall, winning bronze medals and the U14 girls who finished 2nd best team winning silver medals. Looking forward to another great turnout for Day 2 of the Meath Championships in Dunboyne next Sunday. 

Galway Bay half and ten

Trim athletes made their way to the city of the tribes last Saturday to take part in the Galway Bay Half Marathon and 10km. The half marathon course which included the Salthill Prom was completed by Sean Murphy in 78 minutes, John McMorrow clocked in at 1h37 and Enda Gallagher finished in 1h57. Ruuning alongside the half marathon was the Galway Bay 10km. Jane Murphy ran it in 52m while two minute behnd was club mate Aine McInerney.

Success at county cross country

Day one of the Meath 2012 cross country took place on Sun 7 October in Ballinacree. There were some excellent performances in the under age races. The girls under 12 team of Andrea Hiney, Caoimhe Rowe,Olivia Gonsalves, Lilian Brady, Esha Hughes, Roisin O’Rourke, Emma Rennick and Aoife Swords took a team bronze. In the under 14 grils race the Trim team of Hannah Gilligan, Aoife McDonnell, Niamh Fahey and Emer Ferry finished second to Na Fianna. The boys under 12 team was led home by Conall Bird and the other runners, John Ferry, Michael Hegarty and Gearoid McGee took the team to fourth place. David O’Neill, James Dineen, Shane Clarke (under 14s) Claudia Durkin (u10) and Ciaran McGee (u10) all took part in the championships. The even ages championships will be held at Dunboyne next Sunday at 12 noon. Cross country coach John Rowe is optimistic that the club will once again do well in the team categories and is hoping to have a good group from the club attaining selection on the Meath squads for the Leinster championships.

David Hawcrofts trip to Kielder

Recently did a marathon distance trail race in the UK (The Kielder Water Marathon) and I highly recommend it as a real challenge but a great event to do. It uses fine gravel, sand and pine needle off-road tracks around a huge reservoir in the National Park near Newcastle, UK. Fairly hard going since it is relentlessly up/down over mini-hills (and some not so mini), with a few stiff switch-backs for 'walkies'. The average time of the first five finishers was 2hr 52 which indicates the terrain. The event was made by good weather but also by fabulous scenery; regular views across a huge glittering lake, trails through mature conifer, beach and birch forests, buzzards, herons, the lot - magic. They also have a 10K and a duathlon the day before, and the course is ideal for mountain biking so it would make a great family break; and Newcastle itself is well worth a visit.

Meath even, novice and masters cross country

The Meath cross country championships begin next Sunday 7 October at Ballinacree near Oldcastle. The event will be hosted by St Brigids AC. The championships down for decision will be even ages juvenile, novice and masters. ALL athletes must wear the club singlets for county and provincial championships.


DIRECTIONS TO BALLINACREE....Venue for Meath even ages, novice and masters cross country Sun & Oct 12 noon. Trim to Athboy on R154. Left in Athboy continue past Darnley to sign for Oldcastle. Take right and continue on R 154 through Kilskyre, Crossakiel until T junction after Ballinlough GAA pitch. Take left and next right over steep hill continue through Oldcastle on R154 towards Mountnugent. 3/4 Km north west of Oldcastle take left for St Brigids Athletic-Club on L6813.

TRIM AC in Summerhill Duathlon

There was a good turnout by members of Trim AC at the Tri an Mhi duathlon on Sun 30 Sept at Summerhill. Thanks to Pearse, Michelle, Marie and Dave H for giving their time to stage this event. The winners were Ernesto Asensio Blasco and Ursula Byrne. Quinton Bourke was the first of our members home, Enda Markey continues to make big improvements in duathlon. Ann Tobin and Conor Daniel made their debut in duathlon. Well done all.

Dublin Half reports by Don and Heather.

Trim AC whad a good turnout at the who ran in the Dublin half marathon in the Phoenix Park.  Sean Murphy 78m 38s coming home in 38th place overall. Two weeks ago Sean won the M40 in the Dingle Marathon and was 4th overall in a time of 2h 54mins. In the fourth race of the Dublin 2012 series Don Mahon ran 86m 2sec Quinton Bourke 86m 2s a PB for him knocking off over 3mins only two weeks after doing a half Iron Man Mark Melia 87m 19sec another PB knocking off over 2mins Robert Farrell 85m 38sec another PB knocking off over 16mins Aidan Flynn 96m 7sec another PB knocking off over 3mins Brian Grant 96m 4sec & Enda Gallagher 99m 50sec everyone was very happy with there times after all the training they have being putting & some looking forward to the Dublin Marathon in six weeks time.
The womens team performed very well at the Dublin Half also. First home was
Laura Cotter - 1 hour 47(her first ever half marathon what a result), Majella Thompson 1-47 (another sterling performance).They both said afterwards they were a great support to each other. Anita Rogers , Heather Carty, Paula Hegarty 1-57 first Anita then Heather then Paula literally bang bang bang. Anita was great shouting out times and pacing encouragement which kept them on the straight and narrow thoughout the course
. Paula knocked 12 mins off  her Bohermeen half marathon time, she has put in so much work the last 6 months and showed off the results of that work yesterday. Jane Murphy of the super duo Jane and Sean put in a fantastic performance of 1-58 and looked great after the race . Sheila Quinn ran 2-08 and  finshed the race strong. She is already planning her next half marathon where she hopes to top that again. Finally a special mention to Ann McDonnell friend of Sheilas who came up from Mayo AC and hung out with us and put in a pb performance of 1.51 and loads of great advice too thanks Ann we will have to head down west en masse for one of your races

Well done to all from Trim AC who took part in the 24th Star of the Sea cross country, in the mens 6k - Declan Swords 25:57, Conor Daniel 27:36, Stuart Daniel 28:26 and in the womens 3k Dorenda McGee 16:15. Also taking part was Suzanne Halpin - 16:51

Sean best M40 in Dingle marathon

The Dingle Marathon was staged around the roads of the west Kerry peninsula 

on Saturday. Taking part from Trim AC was Sean Murphy who completed the 

hilly and windy course in 2h58m to finish in top spot among the M40 runners 

and a very good fourth place overall.

Quinton Burke impressive in Galway

Half ironman Full Belt!
The Galway half ironman was staged in good weather conditions on Sunday 2 sept.
The swim and run phases were staged in Salthill and the ninety kilometre bike ride
brought the contestants to Maam Cross. Quinton Burke finished off his
triathlon season in impressive style competing the event in 5h10m.

David Hawcroft finishes second in national half M65

Trim AC was well represented at the AAI Woodies national half marathon in
Athenry on Sunday. David Hawcroft finished second in the M65 category in a
time of 1h46.16. The local club set a great flattish course around the
historic walled town and the support from locals was greatly appreciated.
