On St Patricks Day there was a strong representation by Trim Athletic Club at Kildalkey for the Fr Murphy 5 miles road race. The race incorporated the county road race championship and attracted a field of of hundred and twenty seven entries to do battle on the roads around Ballindrimna, Rathcormick and Frayne. A number of Trim runners made the most of the fast flat course to record new personal best times.
There was a welcome return to competitive action by super vet Pat Comey who ran 35.03 in M60 grade to earn second place and fellow masters international runner David Hawcroft was third in the M60 category with 35.49. Best Trim finisher as Dermot Leonard in 29.22, and next home was Don Mahon,29.29. The best of our women runners was Claire Smith in 35.47. The times of Trim members were as follows, ,Quinton Bourke,31.53, Declan Swords,31.57 ( very welcome competitive reappearance),Robert Farrell,34.03,Martin Brogan,34.31,Mark Melia,35.27,Paul Smith,37.55,Ken Foley,39.00,Fiona Smith,42.13,Maria Brogan,42.35.
