Braveheart Trail Run

The third Trim Braveheart Trail Race will be staged over a five kilometre
course on Friday 15th June at 8pm. The event will be staged along the banks
of the Boyne and will take in many of the medieval sites of the town through
the historic Porchfields.  The heritage trails of Trim includes a number of
locations which featured in the film Braveheart. The runners will once more
be sent on their way with a rousing film scene reenactment by members of
Trim Amateur Dramatic Society. The is the first event of the Scurlogstown
Haymaking Festival will and a torch will be borne to the race site by local
sports club members carrying it in relay from Teltown near Kells the site of
the ancient celtic Tailteann Games.



Trim AC is celebrating its 40th year in 2012 and the first 500 entries for
the race will receive a commemorative technical t-shirt. Entry is now open
on www.runireland.com at €15. There will be category prizes for overall,
junior and master runners.Trim AC are keen to encourage the many
recreational runners and  joggers who have taken to the roads and fields of
Ireland in recent years to come along and enjoy the unique atmosphere of
this event. Last years overall mens winner was Neville Reilly and the womens
winner was Fiona Mahon.

Entry on the night from 6.30pm at Porchfields Trim ( 100m from Trim Castle
over pedestrian bridge). The venue is 20 mins from M3 and M4. This year the
club has chosen Meath Cystic Fibrosis as its designated charity.
Entertainment and refreshments on the night.



Baton Chargers

Congrats to the mens A team which won the C grade of the Meath road relays at Bohermeen on Weds 10 April. In the womens race our A team was second in Agrade and the B team was second in the B grade. The race was run over four legs comprising of half mile, one mile, mile and a half and two miles

Drogheda & District plan major 10km

Boyne 10K 2012-

The Boyne10K 2012 will take place in Drogheda on Sunday 6th May 2012. Drogheda and District Athletic Club will host this event in conjunction with Boyne Athletic Club. During the year, D &D AC supports many local races and we hope your club along with others will support us by partaking in the Boyne10K event.
 
The primary objective of the race is to raise funds for the local athletic clubs and to raise funds for a local charity, The Tania McCabe Foundation. The Boyne 10K 2012 will take place on Sunday 6th May at 3pm, last year we had 1,200 participants. Entry is available on line through www.boyne10k.ie. Free entry is available for elites with certified times of sub 32 minutes for men and sub 36 for women, please see attached a race entry form which can be returned to the above address for any elites entering the race.
The Boyne 10K route will start on Laurence Street in the centre of Drogheda and run towards to the Battle of the Boyne site at Oldbridge and return back via the Boyne Boardwalk to finish in the centre of the town again. As well as the main race there will be a series of juvenile races, which will allow participation of all ages on the day. Participants can park in the Laurence’s Shopping Centre, where team prizes and refreshments will be held after the race.

Tabor presentation

Trim Athletic club recently organised the"Team up for Tabor " fun run in
conjunction with the Celtic Festival in Trim. L-R, Ciaran Tobin, Chairman,
Trim AC, Ray Butler, TD, Chairman,Trim Parade Committee, Don Mahon, Trim AC,
Enda Markey, Trim AC, presenting the proceeds of the run to Aidan Heffernan,
Tabor House Recovery Centre.

Thanks to all the club members who helped make this event a success, thanks to Ray Butler who sponsored the medals and the best of luck to Aidan Heffernan and all the volunteers who work on behalf of Tabor House.
All those who came along on the night made a difference and enabled us to raise €1160 for this very worthy cause.

Medal Gurus

Well done to the six teams from Trim AC who took part in the Meath road relay championships at Bohermeen.
The mens A team won the grade C title with Dermot Leonard, Danny Byrne, Don Mahon and Sean Murphy giving their all and shaving 1 and a half minutes off the clubs A team time in 2011. In the womens race the A team of Claire Smith, Laura Cotter, Ann Tobin and Maureen Lowther took the runner up spot in grade B. In grade C there was a runner up place for our B team of Moira Peppard, Anita Rogers,Heather Carty & Niamh Tuite.


It is very heartening to see such great team spirit running through the club.

Special thanks to the St Brigids Athletic Club for setting out such a fine course and the great hospitality afterwards. The county championship results will be announced shortly but it seems we may have done well in the team categories.

National indoor medal for Shane

Shane Aston cleared 1.70m at the national indoor championships at the Nenagh track on Sat. 31 March.  Shane has a very versatile skill set in the athletic arena having previously won the national under 18 javelin title and numerous provincial medals in discus and hammer. Late last year Shane began training with the national combined events development squad.

Good times at the Dunboyne 4

Dunboyne AC hosted the latest round of the 2012 Meath Running League on
Sunday. International cross country star Joe Sweeney from DSD won the race
and the first woman across the line at the village square was Sara Treacy
from Moynalvey Kilcloon AC. There was a good showing by our club members in
the four mile race which attracted just under a thousand runners. Top Trim
finisher was Quentin Bourke who clocked in at 25m37 having took part in a
Tri An Mhi swimming event earlier in the day. He is tuning up well for the
summer triathlon season. The leading woman from Trim AC was Claire Smith who
ran a very good time of 28m29s. Pat Comey continued his return to form with
a 27m59 effort in the M60 class. Conor Daniel was the ninth placed junior
(under20) in a time of 28.16. The other Trim results to hand were Martin
Brogan 27.43,Heather Carty,32.50,Fiona Smith,34.43, Eric Smith,37.50,Stuart
Daniel,35.40, Maria Brogan,35.12. Joanne Bligh,42.21. Well done to all who
took part and the best of luck to you all in the remaining rounds of the
league.

SEAN LEADS THE M40S HOME IN MALLOW

Sean Murphy finished first in the M40 category of the Mallow 10 mile road race on Monday in a great time of 58.04. He described the race as " good testing course with plenty of long slight inclines along the way to sort one out"

Well done Dermot, Pat and David

On St Patricks Day there was a strong representation by  Trim Athletic Club at Kildalkey for the Fr Murphy 5 miles road race. The race incorporated the county road race championship and attracted a field of of hundred and twenty seven entries to do battle  on the roads around Ballindrimna,  Rathcormick and Frayne. A number of Trim runners made the most of the fast flat course to record new personal best times.




 There was a welcome return to competitive  action by super vet Pat Comey  who ran 35.03 in M60 grade to earn second place  and fellow masters international runner David Hawcroft  was third in the M60 category with 35.49. Best Trim finisher as Dermot Leonard in 29.22, and next home was Don Mahon,29.29. The best of our women runners was Claire Smith in 35.47. The times of Trim members were as follows, ,Quinton Bourke,31.53, Declan Swords,31.57 ( very welcome competitive reappearance),Robert Farrell,34.03,Martin Brogan,34.31,Mark Melia,35.27,Paul Smith,37.55,Ken Foley,39.00,Fiona Smith,42.13,Maria Brogan,42.35.



Meath primary schools cross country


The Meath Athletics primary schools cross country championships were hosted by Fr Murphy AC at their excellent facility in Frayne on Friday, 16 March. There has been a huge upsurge in interest in these championship throughout the county and beyond  with 22 schools taking part in this years event. They were as follows: Curragha, Nobber, Boardsmill, Dangan, Rathmore, Kill, St Pauls Rathoath, Ballivor, Gaelscoil na Boinne, Clocha Rince, Duleek, Athboy, Kilbride, Clonard, Dunderry, Johnstownbridge, Baconstown, Rathcairn, Cadamstown, Dunsany, Kiltale & St Marys. In all 593 pupils took part - in 1st & 2nd class 101 girls and 113 boys. 3rd & 4th class 104 girls and 104 boys. 5th & 6th class 93 girls and 78 boys.
