Ultra Running Danny

Wicklow Way Ultra race is a 51km off road marathon which includes 2000
metres of climbs. The course is an out and back route from the famous Johnny
Foxes pub in Glencullen to Ballinastoe Wood near Roundwood. This years
edition of Irelands toughest ultra run was blessed with better than usual
weather conditions. The route takes in Crone Wood, Powerscourt Waterfall and
Djouce mountain. If things go well for you the stunning scenery along the
way is a bonus.

Trim athlete Danny Byrne put in a great performance last Saturday when he
finished seventh in the senior mens category in a very good time of 5h 20m.
On St Patricks Day he led the club team to 3rd place in the county road race
championships. In the immediate aftermath of last Saturdays huge effort he
was hesitant about future forays in to mountain ultras. This changed when
the overall results were released and he could see how well his ultra
running debut went aginst some of Ireland premier mountain runners.
