were some great performances n the Meath senior cross country championships.
The course which had all the right ingredients and gradients for

decider was over four kilometres.
In the senior mens race Darragh Rennicks returned from his Kansas college

gun in the company of Luke Forde, Dunboyne. He extended his lead in the mid
section of the race as Robbie Matthews, Dunshaughlin patiently worked his
way into the silver medal spot. The eventual third placed man Eoin Callaghan
continued his impressive return to competitive athletics by taking third and

Trim on the trails
Taking part in the Fighting Blindness Glendalough 15km trail race were Conor Daniel, Brian Cully, Stuart Daniel, Ciaran Tobin. Crisp clear and chilly conditions. Steep wooded inclines and stunning views on the return journey made this a memorable event for a deserving cause.

Second Level schools cross country
The Meath 2nd level CC will be staged on the
grounds of Franciscan College Gormanstown on Thursday 15 Nov. This event is
organised by the Meath Co Athletics Board. There has been a worrying trend in
recent years where this event actually attracts better support from schools in
Louth, Cavan and Westmeath than it does from schools within the county. There
is a worrying apathy from Meath schools. TRIM AC and
the County Athletics Board request that parents bring this matter to the
attention of the schools and encourage the schools to take part.
Code of Ethics
Meath Athletics Board is hosting a Code of
Ethics for Children in Athletics course: Date: 6th November Time: 7.00pm – 10pm
Venue: Claremont Stadium, Navan This course is essential for all volunteers
working with juvenile athletes or vulnerable adults. The course is free to
Meath members and there is currently 10 places available on a first come first
served basis. Email moiraaston@athleticsireland.ie

for this time of year and a number of our experienced runners set new PBs on
the day. The club also had a number of debutants who were extremely pleased
with their marathon experiences.
The club results to hand are as follows: Sean Murphy, 2.51, Quinton Bourke, 3.05,Joe McNamara,3.08,Don Mahon,3.19,Andrew Linsley,3.20 ,Maureen Lowther,3.30, Mark Melia,3.37, Claire Smith,3.43 Brendan Conway,3.47,Brian Grant,3.59,Thomas Gallagher,3.51,Stephen Byrne, 3.54,Kevin Horan,4.00,Anita Rogers,4.47,Majella Thompson,4.47,Paula Hegarty,4.47,Heather Carty,4.51. Great day at Leinsters
The grounds of Charles Stewart
Parnells home at Avondale, Rathdrum was the venue for the Athletics Leinster

In the girls under 14 inter county our club was represented by Hannah Gilligan Aoife McDonnell and Niamh Fahey. This team also took the top honours. FUN RUN for Guide Dogs
Trim Athletic club organised a 3km fun run
around the town centre last Friday evening. It is the latest fun run organised
by the club which give runners a low key introducito to races while helping
make a contribution to good charitable causes. We are extremely grateful to the
runners and walkers from Trim and its surrounding area who turned out in great
numbers to support the event which will benefit the Irish Guide dogs for the
Blind. There were some great outfits on display as a large number of
participants embraced the whole fun theme by running in disguise. Spot prizes and
team prizes were awarded.
Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind offers a
comprehensive range of services which enable both blind and vision
impaired persons and families of children with Autism to achieve increased
independence and an improved quality of life. Since 1976 Irish Guide
Dogs for the Blind has provided a guide dog programme for people who have a
vision impairment or total sight loss. A guide dog is specially trained to
accompany and enable a vision impaired person to move about safely,
independently and with confidence. The working relationship between a guide dog
and its owner is unique and it offers both social and emotional benefits.
Launched in 2005 the IGDB Assistance Dog
Programme was the first of its kind in Europe. An Assistance Dog is the same breed,
age and temperament as a Guide Dog and is trained especially to work with a
child with autism and his or her family. Assistance Dogs help to
control and improve the behaviour of the child by promoting calmness and acting
as a safety aid to the parent. Outings to public places become less
stressful and families enjoy greater freedom and mobilityMore than 80% of Irish
Guide Dogs for the Blind income comes from fundraising and donations. They rely on the support and generosity of people
in order to deliver their services to clients free of charge. It costs €38,000 to breed, care
and support a single working-dog partnership. There's currently a 1 YEAR
WAITING LIST for Guide Dogs;
Trim AC thank the
following for their help in staging this event. Alan Grehan @ Sally Rogers for
allowing us use his bar for registrations, DJ Johhny Pluse, Richie Walsh @ Judge
& Jury, David Tobin for various PA equipment in the start and finish areas.
Christian Harris for security barriers, Sgt Tom Mahon, Trim Garda Siochana, Meath
Civil Defence, Stephen Leonard Hardware , Focus On Trim, Bootcamp Ireland for
the warm up and all the members of the club who marshalled the route, helped
with registration and results.

David Hawcrofts BLOOMFIELD report
Did a very interesting 10k today at Broomfield (turn right at Geraghty's
concrete between Slane and Collon) and would heartily recommend members put
it on their calendar for next year. Turns out Broomfield is an extremely
small village which has an annual 10k event tor raise money for a charity
(but this year to re-paint their community centre), and it was really heart
warming to see this tiny community in action. In the end there were only 13
runners, with about 40 walkers of all standards. (This included the whole
range from toddlers on bikes with stabilisers to some really old locals just
going up to the first turn and back - and I for one applaud them all).
It was certainly a low key event ("well its about 2 o'clock so you had
better get off then" was the start; and the entry fee was " a
donation -whatever you like"). But I would recommend the event not just
because of the atmosphere but because the course was quite tough. It rolled

concrete between Slane and Collon) and would heartily recommend members put
it on their calendar for next year.
It rolled
for the whole 10k, with a very long shallow one and two really stiff climbs
(just think of the area around Collon when you've been driving and you will
get a feel for it), so despite it being a low key local event you can give

Success at county cross country
Day one of the Meath 2012 cross country took
place on Sun 7 October in Ballinacree. There were some excellent performances
in the under age races. The girls under 12 team of Andrea Hiney, Caoimhe
Rowe,Olivia Gonsalves, Lilian Brady, Esha Hughes, Roisin O’Rourke, Emma Rennick
and Aoife Swords took a team bronze. In the under 14 grils race the Trim team

to Na Fianna. The boys under 12 team was led home by Conall Bird and the other

categories and is hoping to have a good group from the club attaining selection
on the Meath squads for the Leinster championships.

Mahon 1st M40, Stuart Daniel 3rd M40, Ann Tobin 1st W50, Carrie Brogan 2nd W50.

Tobin, Caroline Brogan and Suzanne Daniel finished 3rd.
David Hawcrofts trip to Kielder
Recently did a marathon distance trail race in the UK (The Kielder Water
Marathon) and I highly recommend it as a real challenge but a great event to
do. It uses fine gravel, sand and pine needle off-road tracks around a huge
reservoir in the National Park near Newcastle, UK. Fairly hard going since it
is relentlessly up/down over mini-hills (and some not so mini), with a few
stiff switch-backs for 'walkies'. The average time of the first five finishers
was 2hr 52 which indicates the terrain. The event was made by good weather but
also by fabulous scenery; regular views across a huge glittering lake, trails
through mature conifer, beach and birch forests, buzzards, herons, the lot -
magic. They also have a 10K and a duathlon the day before, and the course is
ideal for mountain biking so it would make a great family break; and Newcastle
itself is well worth a visit.

Anita Rogers , Heather Carty, Paula Hegarty 1-57 first Anita then Heather then Paula literally bang bang bang. Anita was great shouting out times and pacing encouragement which kept them on the straight and narrow thoughout the course
. Paula knocked 12 mins off her Bohermeen half marathon time, she has put in so much work the last 6 months and showed off the results of that work yesterday. Jane Murphy of the super duo Jane and Sean put in a fantastic performance of 1-58 and looked great after the race . Sheila Quinn ran 2-08 and finshed the race strong. She is already planning her next half marathon where she hopes to top that again. Finally a special mention to Ann McDonnell friend of Sheilas who came up from Mayo AC and hung out with us and put in a pb performance of 1.51 and loads of great advice too thanks Ann we will have to head down west en masse for one of your races
